Constipation and Acne

Can constipation cause acne? Yes, clearing bowels regularly can contribute a great deal to having clear skin. Toxins that fail to exit through the gut will inevitably have to come out through the pores of the skin. Acne constipation or digestive-related acne often appears around the jawline and neck areas.

Constipation acne is one of the most common causes of acne.  The effects of constipation include toxin accumulation in the the small and large intestines leaking into the bloodstream and poisoning your blood with half fermented food waste. Toxins and acne goes hand in hand. The immune system recognizes the waste in the bloodstream as threats and desperately tries to purge it through hair follicle pores, mainly at the back and face.

Some constipation causes are unhealthy lifestyle habits such as not getting enough exercise and eating the wrong types of food. Here is when acne and diet comes into play. Avoid foods that may contribute to constipation such as dairy, overly processed foods with white flour and refined grains. Bananas are great for stopping diarrhea but can make constipation worse. Remember, even if you eat plenty of fiber in your diet, the fiber won’t go anywhere unless you supply yourself with enough liquids.

One of the best home remedies for constipation is drinking a few big glasses of WARM water first thing in the morning. Warm liquids help your gut expand and aid the entire digestive system in waste elimination. You should feel the urge to poop nearing on your third glass or the warm isn’t warm enough. The water shouldn’t be too hot but warm enough to swallow one full gulp at a time. Some variations of this warm water flushing method that works really quickly are:

a) 1 tblspn of honey or honey/lemon in warm water

b) 1 tblspn of Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa (traditional Asian herbal honey remedy that gets rid of body heat) with warm water. You can get it in Asian supermarkets.

c) Instead of warm water, warm up some 100% pure prune juice (not from concentrate)

d) Non caffeinated herbal teas such as peppermint, spearmint, lemongrass, licorice and rosehip teas.

After downing a few huge glasses of warm liquids, wait at least an hour before eating anything solid. You should be drinking 75 to 100 percent of your body weight everyday or you aren’t getting enough water. Water and constipation can’t exist in the same sentence- the bottom line is to hydrate yourself.

The best thing you can do for your colon and acne is implement healthy changes into your diet. Eating more fruits before a meal makes a huge difference. Papayas, prunes, kiwi, guava and grapes have natural enzymes that helps bowels expand and digest foods easier. Eat these fruits half an hour before eating the main meal. Add lubricating oils into your meals which are low in protein such as olive oil, butter and other healthful non-hydrogenated oils for easier defecating. Aloe vera and other over-the-counter laxatives should be used sparingly to avoid over reliance.

One very important but least discussed point about taking a dump is HOW you take a dump. Nathaniel Hawthorne Bronner,  Jr introduces a unique way of doing a complete BM (bowel movement) in his guide to How to BM. that is easier and more thorough way of emptying the bowels. He says that the usual way of sitting on a commode style toilet is NOT the best way for total elimination. Squatting is a natural way that relaxes the anal muscles which assist complete BM but that’s not going to be easy on a commode. Try sitting and leaning forward until your head hangs in between your legs. Grab both knees while you do your business. This method puts least strain on your anal muscles while minimizing the risk of incomplete or partial waste elimination that can lead to acne.

Enemas are useful in loosen hard stools. However, make sure you do adequate research on the safety and how-to guides before attempting any.Dependency on any laxatives should be avoided as much as possible. Ideally, you want to be moving your bowels without any extraneous effort.

Last but not least, exercising regularly helps relax body muscles. Keeping a tranquil mind and not let your bowel schedule over-tax you. You will definitely feel like dropping a few bombs if you try the above recommendations.

Chronic constipation treatment might be necessary for people with constant constipation. Chronic constipation and acne may be an underlying symptom of something more serious or may very well lead to that. Do not hesitate to seek medical advice if can’t relieve your bowels no matter what you try.
