Ayurveda Remedies and Treatments for Acne

Ayurveda is a form of alternative medicine which originated in ancient India. It’s main beliefs center around the doctrine of these three Doshas: vata (wind/spirit/air), pitta (bile) and kapha (phlegm). Diseases occur when there are poor internal organ problems and bad diet. In terms of treating acne, Ayurveda focuses on aligning the doshas by using herbs and eating the right food.

The important thing to note is that a person needs to maintain his original doshic makeup through life as much as possible to maintain good health. If you change your diet or lifestyle to one that does not suit your doshas, you will create an imbalance which affects your health and causes acne That’s why restoring balance is the central theme of the ayurvedic approach to health. According to Ayurveda, acne is the result of imbalance of all the three doshas. The main aggravated dosha is pitta which refers to heat or fire in the body.

Eating food like white flour, sweet food as well as greasy stuff may result in acne, according to Ayurvedic medicine. This is the same if you come in contact with polluted surroundings or have excessive stress. The over use of chemicals may also aggravate pitta dosha, which erupts on the skin as acne and pimples.

Here are some common Ayurvedic acne home remedies:

But a word of caution. Research has shown that Ayurveda medicine for acne involves herbs, metals, minerals, or other materials that may have high levels of toxicity and risk. There may be adverse reactions to specific herbs and since some may contain a lot of heavy metals, it can be unsafe. Try to use products that have been tested by a health body if possible or limit your dosage to small amounts or foods you know won’t harm your body.
