Foods that Cause Acne – Stay Away from Them!

Food nourishes us and gives us energy for the day. But what if the foods we eat are causing us problems instead? Acne is an inflammatory disease that can worsen when we partake in foods that we’re allergic to. Eating such foods will  trigger an SOS response to the immune systems, causing inflammation. Unless you’ve clinically checked out your food foes, you may need to be vigilant of these general allergens on a daily basis.

Major offenders for most people are dairy, gluten, soy, nuts and shellfish. Dairy foods are pumped with hormones and steroids. Even organic milk has a high level of natural cow hormones that can make acne worse. Eliminating milk from your diet lightens your bloodstream of unwanted hormones.

Alongside dairy, research has also found sugar to be the main culprit for causing acne. High sugar levels or sudden spikes in insulin levels can cause insulin resistance and hormonal imbalances. This leads to chronic inflammation whenever sugar or simple carbohydrates are ingested. Fruit sugars can also spike insulin levels. Avoid fruits high in sugar such as mangoes, bananas, tangerines, plums, nectarines, peaches and pineapple. If you want a fruit, choose low sugar ones like kiwis, green apples and dragon fruit.

Vegetable oils and hydrogenated oils such as sunflower, safflower, soybean, corn and peanut oils are also pro-inflammatory. These oils are high in saturated fat and oxidizes rapidly especially when heated over high temperatures.

Milk, sugar and vegetable oils are the main ingredients for baked goods. Acne sufferers should also avoid baked goods in general as they are high in calories, spiking testosterone levels. Baked goodies also contain gluten found in wheat flour. If you know you’re fine with wheat, try wholegrain wheat in your breads and pasta.

Gluten can also be found in relatives of wheat such as barley, kamut, rye, spelt. Wheat varieties such as semolina, durhum and bulgar also contain gluten. Substitute these with safer gluten-free whole grains. Brown or wild rice, sweet potato as good carbohydrate alternatives to wheat. They also have a low GI level which helps stabilize sugar levels.

Your daily brew of coffee may also be breaking you out. Caffeine is an alkaloid substance that stimulates the nervous system. Caffeine releases of stress hormones and more sebum, clogging oil glands. Try white tea, decaf green and herbal tea instead.

Beef  is high in saturated fat and should not be consumed by acne sufferers. Cows treated with hormones and steroids causes your body to secrete more oil than it can handle.

Avoid this list of acne offending foods. Eat a high protein, low carb diet that is dairy, gluten, sugar, trans-fat free and witness your complexion improve in less than a month.
